We are excited to welcome the newest artist to grace the walls of the Frontier studio, Noah Scalin.
A graduate of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Noah is a lifelong activist (whose first protest marches were spent in a stroller and then on roller skates).
The former art director of independent movie studio Troma Entertainment and international clothing company Avirex, Noah used his experience with youth marketing and passion for grassroots activism to create his own ethically driven firm, Another Limited Rebelion.
Noah’s work at ALR has gained international exposure in over two-dozen books and is frequently featured in design publications, including How Magazine’s “Good Company” cover story Jan/Feb 2006. Noah also developed a course on socially conscious design for Virginia Commonwealth University and founded a long-running community supported agriculture group in Richmond, Virginia.
SKULLS, a book based on his award-winning blog Skull-A-Day, was published in October 2008 by Lark Books.
We look forward to hours on end of staring at his artwork. Welcome, Noah.

River City Reads’ second book was chosen last week and is now ready for you to run out and pick up. Michele Young Stone’s novel The Handbook for Lightning Strike Survivors is fantastic. Check it out and follow up on RiverCityReads.org.

Good things for the community: Richmond is growing and along with it great ideas and community-backed events and projects are flourishing. An amazing example is the new green and black bus you can see circling town. To The Bottom and Back is a free-to-the-public shuttle service for the Richmond community. It runs Thursday – Saturday, 6pm – 3am, servicing The Fan, VCU, Shockoe Slip and The Bottom. The routes will be expanding this year and daytime operations are in the works. The bus is available for private events, too. They operate solely on the contributions of their patrons and the community.
Currently th
e service runs a continuous loop between Ellwood Thompson’s and The Market @ Tobacco Row. The bus will stop anywhere along the route for a pick-up or drop-off.
Call (804) 908-2945 for more information or visit the website to follow the bus tracker. www.2bnb.org

Amee Mungo’s back! After taking some parent-time away, she returned to Frontier this week. Upon her return, she declared “I’m thrilled to kick-off my return by co-facilitating a client executive session with the brilliant Scott Wayne and Aaron Anderson.” *
You can read a little about Amee through her biography, or just give her a call at the Studio and say “welcome back, now get to work…”.
* This is a fabricated quote, suggested by Aaron Anderson and Scott Wayne

If you’re looking to get involved in the community and would love to meet other people who are just as passionate and committed as you about enriching or enhancing the city, check out Hands On Day. It’s a little ways off, but it’s good to have the mental preparation and spread the word to friends, family and strangers about this all-out effort to better the community. We will surely be involved; stay tuned to see what we’ll be doing.

Scott and Allen came out of the mud in one piece, almost. They did great and had a blast. It was good to be out and about on a beautiful Richmond Evening.
May 15, 2010
Scott and Allen will be gettin’ down and dirty for the Filthy 5K Mud Run down on Browns Island this evening. Come and hang out with us. Watch Scott get soaked and Allen kick his butt. All in good fun though, it is for charity after all. Check out The James River Fund for more information on who we are supporting. See you there.

The inaugural event for River City Reads held last night was a smashing success. Special thanks to the authors and editors of Richmond Noir, Gallery5 and Chop Suey Books for donating their time and space to help bring the community together! If you didn’t get the chance to make it, don’t fret. Visit rivercityreads.org for more information on the book and how to get involved in Richmond’s first city-wide book club.

Come to Gallery 5 this evening at 7:00 for a Night of Noir, brought to you by River City Reads and Chop Suey. Carra will be opening up the evening by talking about River City Reads, Richmond’s First City Wide Book Club. Then there will be readings of the short stories from Richmond Noir, written and edited by Richmond Locals.
This reading is free and open to the public and will feature readings by Mina Beverly, Conrad Ashley Persons, Tom De Haven, David L. Robbins, and Meagan J. Saunders. Co-editors Andrew Blossom and Brian Castleberry and authors X.C. Atkins, Laura Browder, and Anne Thomas Soffee will also be on hand to discuss their work, answer questions, and sign books.
We hope to see you there.
